Anil Maharaj is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He holds a BSc in Pharmacy (University of Manitoba, 2008) and a PhD (University of Waterloo, 2017). After practicing as a clinical pharmacist, he completed postdoctoral fellowships at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Duke Clinical Research Institute. His research focuses on pharmacometrics and pediatric pharmacology.
- Education: BSc (Pharmacy), University of Manitoba (2008); PhD, University of Waterloo (2017)
Dr. Maharaj’s work applies pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling to optimize drug dosing in children and pregnant women. His lab integrates computational modeling with benchtop research to quantify physiological differences affecting drug efficacy and safety. Key projects include simulating dosing strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluating obesity-related pharmacokinetic changes.
Recent publications emphasize pharmacokinetic modeling for anti-epileptics in obese children, opioid induction protocols, and neonatal drug toxicity assessments. His research leverages virtual trials with physiologically-based models to address data gaps in underserved populations.
