Anil Duman is a Professor and Head of the Political Science Department at the Central European University (CEU) in Vienna, Austria. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a B.A. in Economics from Middle East Technical University. Her research focuses on labor markets, political behavior, and social policy, with emphasis on informality, migration, and green transition impacts. She has held visiting roles at Koç University and the Economic Research Forum, and previously worked at the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Key research areas include labor market structures and their political consequences, gender-based inequalities, migration’s socioeconomic effects, and the distributive impacts of climate policies. Notable projects include analyses of welfare nationalism in Central/Eastern Europe and the labor market implications of the green transition. She leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the 'Brown to Green' project on political economy risks and co-teaches courses on economic inequality.
Her recent publications explore informal employment’s political dimensions in MENA, gender wage gaps in Turkey, and welfare policies affecting migrant integration. She contributes to international reports on global employment trends and key worker protection during crises. Professional activities include editorial roles and collaborations across Europe and the Middle East.
