Anija Meiere serves as an Acting Assistant in the Department of Paediatrics at Rīga Stradiņš University's Faculty of Medicine while completing her Ph.D. studies in both the Department of Paediatrics and the Institute of Public Health. Her academic work is primarily focused on pediatric infectious diseases, particularly related to SARS-CoV-2 and its complications in children.
Dr. Meiere's research interests span multiple critical areas in pediatric medicine including inflammation, serositis, biological markers, and infectious disease management. Her work significantly contributes to understanding Kawasaki Disease, Toxic Shock Syndrome, and the immunopathogenetic profiles of children affected by acute and post-COVID-19 conditions. She employs observational study methodologies to investigate clinical features and associated factors in pediatric inflammatory conditions.
Analysis of her recent publication record reveals a strong focus on pediatric responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection, with particular attention to Long COVID symptom profiles in children, multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-c), and appropriate diagnostic approaches for febrile children. Her research demonstrates a consistent pattern of investigating inflammatory markers, clinical outcomes, and quality of life impacts following pediatric infections.
Dr. Meiere has been actively involved in multiple significant research projects, most notably serving as Project Leader for 'Clinical features, their associated factors and immunopathogenetic profile comparison of children with acute COVID-19 illness, post-COVID-19 condition and multisystem inflammatory syndrome' (2022-2026). She has also contributed as an Expert (PhD student) to the 'Clinical, biochemical, immunogenetic paradigms of Covid-19 infection' project funded by the Latvian Council of Science (2020-2021) and participated in the European PERFORM consortium studying febrile children management.
Her active research collaboration network includes numerous national and international partners, with significant contributions to European multicenter studies on pediatric infectious diseases. Dr. Meiere has presented her findings through multiple poster and oral presentations at academic conferences between 2021-2025, demonstrating her engagement with the broader scientific community.
