Anhong Zhou is a Professor in the Department of Biological Engineering at Utah State University (USU), affiliated with the College of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced biosensing technologies, cellular biomechanics, and nanotechnology applications in biomedicine. Dr. Zhou has received numerous awards, including the 2020 Outstanding Graduate Mentor and multiple recognitions for his students’ achievements.
- Education: PhD in Biosensors (Hunan University, 2000), MS in Electrochemical Corrosion (Hunan University, 1997), BS in Applied Chemistry (Xiangtan University, 1994).
- Teaching: Courses include BIOINSTRUMENTATION (BENG 3000), BIOSENSORS (BENG 5910/6910), and BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN (BENG 4880/4890).
Research interests span molecular imaging, single-molecule detection, and the integration of AFM/Raman spectroscopy for real-time cellular analysis. His lab develops lab-on-a-chip devices and biosensors for applications in cancer diagnostics and environmental monitoring. Recent work emphasizes photothermal therapy using multifunctional nanoparticles and SERS-based cancer biomarker detection.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches in biomedical optics, nanotechnology, and toxicology. Over 74 peer-reviewed articles demonstrate contributions to fields like cancer cell mechanics, antibiotic degradation, and microfluidic sensors.
- Awards: 2020 Outstanding Graduate Mentor, 2015 AFM Image Contest Finalist, 2010 Gardner Travel Fellowship.
- Grants: Supported by USU and industry partnerships (e.g., Keysight Technologies).
- Lab affiliations: Active in nanobiosensing and cellular biophysics research groups.
