Dr. Angelique Y. Louie is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis. She holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. Her academic affiliations include roles in the Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (BMCDB) and Chemistry Graduate Group.
Dr. Louie's research focuses on ecological dynamics, particularly plant-herbivore interactions, climate change impacts, and ecosystem responses to environmental perturbations. Her work bridges disciplines like ecology, entomology, and environmental science, addressing topics such as resource competition, predator-prey dynamics, and biodiversity conservation. Notable projects include studies on monarch butterfly phenology, grassland productivity under nutrient enrichment, and the effects of marine subsidies on island ecosystems.
She has received the prestigious Fellowship from the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and serves on the Board of Directors for the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES). Her contributions extend beyond academia, including advising the UCD SWE chapter and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations through initiatives like the IntBIO Project.
Her publications consistently explore temporal and spatial ecological patterns, with recent work emphasizing the interplay between climate change, herbivory, and species resilience. While no formal list of advisees is provided, her role as a faculty member suggests active mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in ecological and biomedical research.
