معرفی
Dr. Angelina Żyśko is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and General Linguistics at the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies, Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland. She specializes in various linguistic disciplines including sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, historical linguistics, translation studies, and the relationship between language and culture.
Dr. Żyśko's primary research interests focus on:
- Sociolinguistics and language variation
- Translation studies and cross-cultural communication
- Language and culture interactions
- Historical linguistics and semantic change
- Cognitive linguistics and conceptual metaphor
Her research primarily examines semantic developments, particularly in the domains of "joy," "happiness," and "clothes" vocabulary across languages. She employs cognitive linguistic approaches to analyze historical semantic changes, with special attention to metonymy, conceptual metaphors, and cross-linguistic cognates. Her recent work has expanded to include analysis of political discourse, particularly regarding the language of war in translations of Zelenskyy's speeches about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Dr. Żyśko has published extensively on historical semantics, with her most notable work being the monograph "English 'Joyful' Vocabulary. Semantic Developments" (2016). Her research demonstrates a consistent focus on how conceptual categories interact and evolve over time, particularly examining the bidirectional relationships between domains like clothing and human characteristics.
Scientific awards received by Dr. Żyśko include:
- 2023 - Rector's Award of UMCS for highly scored scientific article
- 2023 - Homo Didacticus Rector's Award of UMCS for outstanding teaching work
Dr. Żyśko has secured multiple research grants from the Faculty of Humanities at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, including projects on the historical semantics of English "joy" vocabulary (2012), cultural motivation of lexical changes (2013), and English-Polish cognates related to happiness (2017). She has actively participated in numerous international conferences and has organized several academic events, including the international conference of the Polish Cognitive Linguistics Association (2015) and the Culture, Cognition, Communication conference (2019).
As a member of the Polish Cognitive Linguistics Association, Dr. Żyśko contributes to the academic community through conference organization and editorial work, having provided language editing services for several publications. Her research shows a clear trajectory from historical semantics of specific lexical domains toward broader applications in political discourse analysis and cross-cultural communication.
