Angeliki Martinou is an Ecologist and Researcher affiliated with The Cyprus Institute, where she serves as a research affiliate. She holds a Master's in Applied Entomology and a PhD in Ecology from Imperial College, University of London. Currently, she is the Head of the Laboratory in Vector Ecology and Applied Entomology at the Joint Services Health Unit, British Forces Cyprus. Her work focuses on insect interactions, biological control methods, and the management of invasive species, with a strong emphasis on citizen science initiatives.
Dr. Martinou has extensive experience in vector ecology, aquatic systems, and the study of invasive species such as mosquitoes and aphids. She collaborates with institutions across Europe and actively supports projects like the Global Impacts Dataset of Invasive Alien Species (GIDIAS) and citizen science platforms for early detection of invasive species. Her research also involves developing online resources, such as the Ants of Cyprus and Chalcid Wasps of Cyprus websites, to raise awareness and document biodiversity.
She advocates for area-wide pest and vector management strategies and has contributed to initiatives like the AIMSurv project for Aedes mosquito surveillance. Her work integrates field research, molecular biology, and technological tools (e.g., AI-driven monitoring) to address ecological challenges. Dr. Martinou is a key figure in Cyprus’s efforts to combat biological invasions and promote sustainable conservation practices through interdisciplinary collaboration.
