Angelika Auer

Angelika Auer serves as Manager of the viral diagnostics laboratory at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, specializing in veterinary virology research and diagnostic method development.

Her primary research interests include:

• Equine Coronavirus (ECoV) epidemiology and diagnostics
• Rotavirus C (RVC) in swine populations
• Canine Bocaviruses (CBoV) pathogenesis

Dr. Auer has documented the increasing prevalence of Equine Coronavirus in Austrian horse populations since its first detection in 2013, with notable case increases since 2018. Her research has established real-time RT-PCR of fecal samples as the gold standard for ECoV detection.

Regarding Rotavirus C, she has highlighted its significance as a major diarrheal pathogen in suckling pigs and emphasized the critical need for differential diagnosis between RVC and other similar pathogens like Rotavirus A.
