Angela VandenBroek is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Texas State University specializing in the intersection of business anthropology, design anthropology, and science and technology studies. Her research examines how ambitions for better futures by states, citizens and entrepreneurs are coopted and reformed by innovation culture and its infrastructures.

Dr. VandenBroek has conducted extensive ethnographic research in Stockholm Sweden's startup ecosystem, analyzing entrepreneurial storytelling and venture capital pitch events. She is expanding her research to Austin, Texas starting Fall 2021, examining similar dynamics in American innovation contexts. Her work particularly focuses on how environmental concerns like climate change are framed within entrepreneurial narratives.
As an active scholar, she serves as Web Producer for Platypus, the CASTAC Blog, and participated in CASPR 2022 where she discussed bridging academic and industry research contexts with colleagues from Waymo and Intel. Her publications analyze the tension between authentic social concern and performative aspects of innovation culture.
