Dr. Angela Scott is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph. Her research focuses on glial-neuronal interactions in neural development, injury, and disease, using zebrafish and mouse models. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Edinburgh and McMaster University.
- B.Sc. (Hons) Physiology, University of Saskatchewan
- B.A. (Distinction) Psychology, University of Saskatchewan
- Ph.D. Neuroscience, University of British Columbia
- Postdoctoral Fellowships at University of Edinburgh, McMaster University (Pathology & Biology)
Research interests include astrocyte regulation of purinergic signaling in Fragile X Syndrome, comparative neuroregeneration strategies, and stress tolerance mechanisms in zebrafish. Key areas of study are astrocyte-neuron communication during development, synaptic plasticity, and metabolic homeostasis.
Publications highlight work on hypoxia responses in neuroepithelial cells, spinal cord injury signaling, and mitochondrial dysfunction in Fragile X Syndrome. Current lab projects explore astrocyte roles in neurodevelopmental disorders and regenerative neurobiology.
Students supervised include Alexandra Law (PhD), Matt Napier (PhD), Isaac Sullivan (MSc), and multiple undergraduate researchers. The lab is housed in SSC 3406 with a dedicated website at scottneurolab.ca.
