Angela Scheuerle

Dr. Angela Scheuerle is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, with secondary appointments in the Eugene McDermott Center for Human Development. She specializes in Clinical Genetics, Medical Genetics, and Public Health Genetics, focusing on birth defects epidemiology and drug safety. Her career began during the Human Genome Project era, and she has contributed to large-scale studies like the National Birth Defects Prevention Study and the Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry.

Education: Magna Cum Laude Biology (Sewanee University), M.D. (University of South Florida), Pediatric Residency (Cincinnati Children’s Hospital), and Medical Genetics Fellowship (Baylor College of Medicine). She also completed a Clinical Ethics fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Research Interests: Craniofacial malformations, teratogen exposure effects, and pharmacovigilance for medications during pregnancy. Her work includes analyzing birth defect co-occurrence patterns and maternal environmental exposures. She developed the Organ System Classification schema for birth defect categorization, widely used in pharmaceutical registries.
