Angela Nickerson

Dr. Angela Nickerson is a Lecturer at the School of Psychology, University of New South Wales (UNSW Australia), and Director of the Refugee Trauma and Recovery Program. She is a practicing clinical psychologist specializing in traumatic stress reactions with extensive experience working with refugee and post-conflict populations across Australia, Switzerland, the United States, and Timor Leste.

Her research focuses on understanding psychological mechanisms underpinning refugee mental health, developing effective interventions for traumatic stress reactions, examining policy impacts on refugee mental health, and exploring cross-cultural considerations in psychological processes. She investigates complex relationships between emotion regulation, moral injury, PTSD, and social functioning in displaced populations through longitudinal and experimental methodologies.

Dr. Nickerson's recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on refugee mental health with particular attention to emotion regulation, PTSD, policy impacts, and neural correlates of trauma.
