Angela McCarthy is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, within the College of Arts and Letters. Previously, she held roles as Experiential Learning Coordinator and Assistant Instructional Professor at the University of Florida. She earned her B.A. from Louisiana State University, M.A. in History from Southeastern Louisiana University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Louisiana State University.
Her research focuses on political behavior, public opinion, and the impact of religiosity on policy attitudes. She has published in journals such as Political Research Quarterly, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, and Geographical Review. Current projects include manuscripts on religiosity’s influence on partisan orientations and evolving attitudes toward same-sex marriage.
McCarthy is dedicated to undergraduate education, emphasizing interactive learning and critical thinking. She advises students on academic and career paths, prioritizing mentorship. Awards include recognition for teaching excellence and a distinguished dissertation honor.
