Dr. Angela Maharaj is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Climate Change Research Centre (CCRC) within the Faculty of Science at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She is also an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science. Her research focuses on ocean roles in climate variability, satellite oceanography, and education outreach. She holds a PhD in Atmospheric Science (Macquarie University, 2007) and a BSc Honours I (Macquarie University, 1998).
Research interests include climate modes, planetary waves, subtropical gyre variability, ocean productivity, tropical cyclones, satellite-derived variables (SSH/SST/chlo), and education initiatives like the Smart Science Initiative. She teaches courses such as MSCI0501 and CLIM1001, and is involved with AMOS committees.
Her recent work emphasizes urban air quality monitoring via the SWAQ project, linking citizen science with school communities. Publications span climate dynamics, oceanography, and educational applications. She has advised multiple graduate students in climate-related fields.
