Dr. Angela Lamson serves as the Nancy W. Darden Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science within the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University. She currently holds the position of Senior Fellow for the Office of Innovation and Engagement and has previously served as interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic & Community Engagement, associate dean for research and graduate studies, and director of the ECU Family Therapy Clinic. Dr. Lamson is a clinical fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and serves on the Executive Committee for the Alliance of Military and Veteran Family Behavioral Health Providers at the national level.
Dr. Lamson's research focuses on Medical Family Therapy and integrated care, with particular expertise in trauma, chronic illness, loss, and compassion fatigue across diverse populations. Her work extensively explores moral injury among military populations, biopsychosocial-spiritual health of active duty women, and integrated behavioral healthcare models in rural settings. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to examine how family therapy principles can be effectively integrated into primary care, specialty care, military bases, and community health settings.
Dr. Lamson's recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward understanding moral injury, spiritual health in trauma recovery, and innovative models for delivering integrated care in resource-limited settings. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, particularly in military healthcare systems and rural communities. The increasing focus on teletherapy and health equity in her 2023-2024 publications reflects her commitment to expanding access to quality care.

Her service includes editorial roles for Contemporary Family Therapy and Military Behavioral Health journals, as well as review activities for major professional organizations.
Dr. Lamson directs significant research initiatives focused on integrated behavioral healthcare, particularly through partnerships with community health organizations and military systems. Her work with the Alliance of Military and Veteran Family Behavioral Health Providers shapes national standards for military family behavioral health care. The ECU Family Therapy Clinic, which she previously directed, serves as a training ground for future family therapists while providing evidence-based care to the local community.
