معرفی
Dr. Angela Cumberland is a Research Fellow in the Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University. Her work focuses on neurodevelopmental outcomes, particularly in contexts of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preterm birth, and perinatal compromises. She employs guinea pig models to investigate the role of neurosteroids and thyroid hormones in brain development, with implications for schizophrenia, autism, and pediatric mental health. Her research combines neuroimaging, molecular biology, and clinical studies to address both basic science and translational applications.
Her teaching interests include neurodevelopment, perinatal complications, and therapeutic interventions. Dr. Cumberland actively supervises research projects on topics such as radiation effects on signaling pathways, brain regeneration potential, and thyroid hormone analogues for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Key research themes include:
- Neurosteroid regulation during fetal development
- Thyroid hormone’s role in myelination and neuroprotection
- Longitudinal brain structural changes in preterm children
- Psychiatric correlates of early-life adversity
Her publications highlight advancements in understanding white matter microstructure associations with behavioral symptoms, hippocampal growth trajectories, and the structural connectome’s role in neurodevelopmental disorders.
