Angela Capel Cuevas

Angela Capel Cuevas is an Assistant Professor of Quantum Information Theory/Theoretical Quantum Computation at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge since April 2024. Previously, she held a Junior Professor (W1) position in Mathematical Methods of Quantum Theory at Universität Tübingen (2021–2024) and was a postdoctoral researcher at the Technische Universität München (2020–2021). She earned her PhD in Mathematics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas under a La Caixa-Severo Ochoa Fellowship.

Research: Her work focuses on quantum many-body systems and quantum information theory, applying tools from analysis, geometry, and probability. Key areas include quantum dissipative evolutions, functional inequalities (e.g., logarithmic Sobolev inequalities), Gibbs states, and entropy decay. Notable contributions include studies on thermalization rates, correlation decay, and quantum Wielandt inequalities.

Funding: Principal investigator in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC TRR 352) on Mathematics of Many-Body Quantum Systems (2023–2027) and the QuantERA project TouQan (2024–2027).

Awards: Simons Emmy Noether Fellowship (2023), Forbes 30 Under 30 Spain (2023), Vicent Caselles RSME-FBBVA Award (2022).

Advising: Supervises PhD students (e.g., Sebastian Stengele, Paul Gondolf) and postdoctoral researchers (e.g., Alberto Ruiz de Alarcón). Active in organizing workshops on quantum information and thermalization phenomena.
