Dr. Ang Li, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine – Hematology & Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine, and a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is a physician-scientist specializing in non-malignant hematology, with a clinical and research focus on coagulation disorders, cancer-associated thrombosis, and thrombotic microangiopathy.
His educational background includes:
- M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine (2012)
- Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (2015)
- Fellowship at University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (2018)
- M.S. in Public Health from University of Washington (2019)
Dr. Li leads the Li Lab, which conducts clinical epidemiology and health services research using big data from electronic health records and administrative claims databases. His research focuses on risk prediction modeling for venous thromboembolism in cancer and transplant patients, health disparities in thrombosis care, and biomarker validation in transplant-associated TMA. He has developed and validated tools such as the EHR-CAT risk model and the HIGH-2-LOW score.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in using large-scale data to improve thrombosis risk stratification, address health inequities, and evaluate therapeutic interventions across diverse populations. His work spans epidemiology, comparative effectiveness, cost analysis, and machine learning applications in hematology.
Dr. Li has received significant recognition, including:
- 2024 ASH Junior Faculty Scholar Award
- 2023 ASH Abstract Achievement Awards for multiple trainees in his lab
He is principal or co-investigator on multiple grants from NIH/NHLBI, CPRIT, CDC, and AIM-AHEAD, supporting research in thrombosis prediction, health disparities, and AI-driven equity initiatives. He mentors a multidisciplinary team of post-doctoral fellows, medical residents, biostatisticians, and software engineers. His lab actively collaborates with national organizations and presents regularly at major hematology conferences such as the American Society of Hematology annual meeting.
Dr. Li’s lab, the Li Lab, is engaged in several key projects including prospective validation of TA-TMA biomarkers, epidemiology of cancer-associated thrombosis, and AI/ML applications to address disparities in underserved cancer populations.
