Dr. Aneeqa Khan is a Research Fellow in Nuclear Fusion at the University of Manchester, working at the Harwell campus and within the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE). Her research focuses on materials science challenges in nuclear fusion, particularly tungsten-based materials' behavior under plasma exposure. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2017), supervised by Prof. Peter Mummery, investigating fusion-relevant damage in tungsten.
Her expertise includes plasma surface interactions, material degradation mechanisms, and advanced reactor component design. Key projects include contributions to the European DEMO divertor mock-up assessments and ITER material migration simulations. She has collaborated on interdisciplinary studies, including neutron imaging for residual stress analysis in fusion materials.
Research interests span plasma effects on materials, helium irradiation impacts, and optimization of tungsten-rhenium alloys for fusion applications. Her work contributes to UN SDGs through sustainable energy development. Media engagements include expert commentary on nuclear fusion breakthroughs and their climate implications.
Current involvement includes the UoMaH project focusing on advanced materials characterization. Her 15+ peer-reviewed articles and commissioned policy reports demonstrate cross-disciplinary impact in both technical and policy arenas.
