Dr Andy Boes is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Head for Research at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Adelaide. He is affiliated with the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS). His academic career includes a PhD in Engineering from RMIT University (2016) and a sabbatical at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2017/18). He has attracted over $4.7M in research funding and received multiple awards, including the ARC DECRA Fellowship (2023).
Research focuses on photonic integrated circuits, nonlinear photonics, and their applications in communication, defense, and quantum optics. He specializes in materials like lithium niobate and silicon for compact, efficient photonic chips. Current projects explore microwave photonics and semiconductor-based nonlinear optics.
