Andy Baker is a Professor of Political Science at Purdue University and a member of the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Faculty. Previously, he served as Professor and Chair of Political Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (2001) and a B.A. from Valparaiso University (1994). His research focuses on how economic interests and interpersonal communication shape political attitudes and voting behavior, particularly in Latin America. He has authored three books, including the award-winning Persuasive Peers: Social Communication and Voting in Latin America (2020).

In addition to his research, Baker teaches courses on comparative politics, Latin American politics, and global development. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Brasília and Sciences Po Bordeaux. He serves as a reviewer for numerous journals and is a member of the editorial board for Latin American Politics and Society.
