Dr. Andy Bailey serves as the Dark Tobacco Extension Specialist at the University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, based at the Princeton Research and Education Center. His work focuses on supporting tobacco producers in the historic Black Patch region through research, extension, and educational programming.
Dr. Bailey's research interests center on dark tobacco production systems, with expertise in crop physiology, pest management, alternative production methods, transplant production, and labor issues. His work addresses both traditional production challenges and emerging issues facing tobacco growers in Kentucky and surrounding regions. He has conducted extensive research on dark tobacco varieties, curing methods, and sustainable production practices.
His publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to tobacco science, with research spanning crop management, economic viability, climate adaptation, and pest control strategies. Over the past decade, his work has evolved to address changing market conditions, regulatory environments, and production challenges facing dark tobacco growers.
