André Desrochers is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Science. He holds a PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1985) and focuses on sedimentary basin analysis and ancient carbonate rock systems. His research emphasizes understanding Earth's fossil records, particularly the unique Anticosti Island geosite with 445-million-year-old fossils. He leads UNESCO's IGCP 591 project involving 400+ scientists studying the Early to Middle Paleozoic Revolution.
Research interests include high-resolution stratigraphy, carbonate sedimentology, paleoecology, and paleoclimatic reconstructions. His work addresses Ordovician glaciation mechanisms and their impacts on global systems. Collaborations involve multidisciplinary teams analyzing chitinozoan biozones, sea level fluctuations, and CO2's role in glacial cycles.
Publications focus on Ordovician-Silurian transition dynamics, integrating isotopic data, biostratigraphy, and geochemical proxies. No formal awards are listed, though his leadership in major international projects highlights his professional standing.
