Professor André Brodocz is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Erfurt, Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences. Since February 2024, he has served as Vice President for Research and Academic Careers at the University of Erfurt. Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Erfurt from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2018 to 2021. He has been instrumental in founding the 'Journal for Political Theory' in 2010, which he co-edits with Prof. Dr. Marcus Llanque and Prof. Dr. Gary Schaal.
Brodocz's research focuses on the further development of agonistic theories of democracy and systems theory, as well as the reconceptualization of the concept of power. His empirical research examines political practices in pandemic times of exception, claims to representation in ecological conflicts, and struggles for interpretative power and crisis narratives in democracies. His publications span from theoretical explorations of democratic forms to analyses of contemporary political crises and representation issues.
His scholarly contributions include numerous articles in journals such as the Zeitschrift für Politische Theorie, with recent work addressing temporal structures of states of exception, women's representation in parliaments, and the dynamics of democratic orders through visual practices. His research demonstrates a consistent engagement with the theoretical foundations of democracy while addressing pressing contemporary political challenges.
