André Antunes

André Antunes serves as a guest assistant at the Setúbal School of Technology (ESTS-IPS) of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, teaching Web Programming, while pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at NOVA University Lisbon's Faculty of Science and Technology under a Foundation for Science and Technology scholarship.

His academic credentials include a Master's degree in Software Engineering and a Degree in Computer Engineering (Software Engineering branch), both obtained from ESTS-IPS.

Research focuses on digital health innovation through Digital Twins for Therapy, Serious Games for Rehabilitation of Patients with Disabilities, and Adaptive Serious Games, leveraging VR/AR/XR and Multimodal HCI. His doctoral thesis develops personalized therapy digital twins using machine learning to optimize therapeutic outcomes for disabled patients, intersecting Artificial Intelligence with Digital Health and Sustainability applications.

He has contributed to six research projects as a Research Fellow within the Resilience R&D unit, specializing in computational optimization for water distribution systems including pressure sensor placement and pipe burst detection using NSGA-II algorithms and convolutional neural networks.
