معرفی
Andrzej Furman is a Professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences, Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. His academic career spans over three decades, progressing from Research Assistant (1988-1992) to his current role since 2011. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Boğaziçi University (1992) and an M.S. in Physics from Wrocław University (1978).
His research focuses on ecology (conservation and phylogenetics), mathematical modeling in biostatistics, and social dimensions of environmental issues. Key projects include phylogeographic studies of bats in Thrace, Anatolia, and the Levant, with a focus on species such as Rhinolophus hipposideros and Myotis bats. His work bridges molecular genetics, evolutionary biology, and conservation policy.
Recent publications (2012–2014) emphasize phylogeographic patterns of bat species, species delimitation via genetic analysis, and ectoparasite dynamics in contact zones. His research has been supported by Boğaziçi University’s Scientific Research Projects Fund (BAP), including projects on cryptic bat diversity and population genetics.
He has led multiple interdisciplinary projects, integrating fieldwork, genomic tools, and ecological modeling. His contributions highlight the critical role of Anatolia as a genetic reservoir for Western Palaearctic bat species.
