Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Researchمعرفی
Dr. Andrii Butkovskyi serves as a Postdoc researcher at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig, Germany, within the Department of Molecular Environmental Biotechnology since 2017. Previously, he conducted postdoctoral research at Wageningen University's Department of Environmental Technology (2015-2017), focusing on shale gas and water environmental risks through a joint Dutch water utilities and NWO research program.
He earned his PhD in Environmental Technology from Wageningen University/Wetsus (2010-2015) with research on micropollutant removal in source-separated sanitation systems, following an MSc in Biotechnology from Lund University (2009).
Dr. Butkovskyi's research specializes in constructed wetlands and near-natural water treatment technologies for removing organic pollutants including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and industrial chemicals. His work emphasizes microbial community interactions with wetland media and plants to enhance degradation processes in treatment systems. His expertise spans environmental engineering, biotechnology, and water quality management with practical applications for sustainable water treatment.
He actively contributes to significant research initiatives including AWARE (Water JPI Project on pesticide fate in agricultural crops), ELECTRA (EU-China research on low-energy bioremediation technology), and the PhD college FATE (studying antibiotic fate from sources to sinks).
Analysis of his publication record reveals consistent contributions to shale gas wastewater treatment, micropollutant removal across various water streams, source-separated sanitation systems, and pharmaceutical fate in water systems. His interdisciplinary approach combines environmental engineering, microbiology, and chemistry to develop sustainable solutions for water quality challenges facing modern society.
