Andrii Babii

Andrii Babii is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of North Carolina. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics and specializes in econometrics with a focus on causal inference, high-dimensional data analysis, and machine learning. His research combines mathematical and statistical foundations with practical applications, and his work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, and Econometric Theory.

He has extensive teaching experience in econometrics and statistics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Andrii is the creator of the Pythia.jl package, an open-source Julia library for machine learning time series regressions, which implements methods like LASSO, group LASSO, and sparse group LASSO via proximal gradient descent.
