Dr. Andrey Sarantsev is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), tenured since July 2024. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at UNR (2018–2024) and a Visiting Assistant Professor at UC Santa Barbara (2015–2018). He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Washington (2015) and a Specialist degree from Lomonosov Moscow State University (2010).
His research focuses on Probability Theory, Financial Mathematics, Stochastic Processes, and Actuarial Science. Key areas include systemic risk modeling, stochastic portfolio theory, and time series analysis in finance and ecology. He has advised multiple graduate and undergraduate students, including PhD candidates Abraham Atsiwo and Jihyun Park.
Dr. Sarantsev teaches advanced courses in probability, stochastic processes, and Bayesian statistics. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and contributes to open-access educational initiatives, such as accessible LaTeX mathematics for visually impaired students. His work integrates interdisciplinary applications, including collaborations with astrophysicists and environmental scientists.
Notable awards include the McKibben & Merner Fellowship (2010) and repeated Academic Excellence Fellowships during his undergraduate studies. He actively participates in academic service, including roles in graduate committees and Nevada's American Statistical Association chapter.
