Dr. Andrew Weaver is Professor in Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria, currently on leave. His research spans climate change policy, ocean-climate interactions, and renewable energy solutions. Previously focused on paleoclimate reconstruction and ocean modeling, current work emphasizes practical climate mitigation strategies including ocean thermal energy conversion.
Research contributions include development of the UVic Earth System Climate Model, analysis of multi-millennial climate policy impacts, and studies linking plastic pollution to carbon cycling. Recent publications examine mental health dimensions of climate change and educational applications of climate science.
As former lead author for IPCC assessment reports and BC Green Party leader, work bridges scientific research, policy development, and public communication of climate science.
