Andrew Umstead is a Researcher in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University, serving as Lab Manager for the Vega Lab since 2018 and Lab Technician for the Integrated Mass Spectrometry Unit (IMSU) core facility. He joined MSU in 2016 as an intern in Dr. Irving Vega’s lab. His expertise focuses on proteomics, employing techniques such as PCR, western blotting, protein purification, immunoprecipitation, and mass spectrometry.
Education: B.S. in Biology with a Physiology emphasis from Northern Michigan University (2014); M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Grand Valley State University (2017).
Technical proficiency includes advanced biomolecular analysis and facility management within translational neuroscience research. He contributes to the GRRC-based IMSU, supporting proteomic research infrastructure.
