Andrew Squelch

Dr. Andrew Squelch is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at Curtin University, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds roles as Unit Coordinator for Applied Geophysics and Petroleum Geophysics units, and serves as Director of Learning and Teaching in the WA School of Mines. His research focuses on computational image analysis, 3D printing for medical and geoscience data (e.g., CT scans), and virtual reality applications in mining safety and education.

Education: He earned a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Mathematics (CSM), MSc from Witwatersrand University, and a PhD from the University of Nottingham. Professional credentials include Chartered Engineer (UK), Professional Engineer (RSA), and European Engineer.

Research Interests: Dr. Squelch’s work spans 3D visualization of seismic and medical data, rockbolt quality inspection, and virtual mineral collections. He develops virtual reality simulators for mine safety training and collaborates on medical imaging projects, including 3D printed models for congenital heart disease and aortic dissection analysis.

Publications: His recent work includes studies on optimizing CT protocols using 3D printed models, clinical value of visualization modalities for heart disease, and geophysical applications of 3D printing. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles highlight his contributions to medical imaging, mining engineering, and computational geosciences.
