Andrew Sherwood is an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph's School of Languages and Literatures. He holds a Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology from Princeton University (2000), alongside earlier degrees including a B.A. from the University of Calgary (1977). His research focuses on archaeological excavations in Jordan, Romania, and potential projects in Italy and Croatia. Notable projects include the Humayma Roman Fort excavations (2004-2005) and collaborative work on the Harbours of Caesarea Maritima. He has authored publications on Greek and Roman technology and contributed to archaeological reports in Mouseion and AJA.
Dr. Sherwood’s awards include the UGFA Teaching Award (2013) and multiple research grants. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary methods, combining geophysical surveys with historical analysis to study Roman military infrastructure and ancient technological systems. He collaborates with institutions like Catania University and the University of Zagreb to advance archaeological training and field research.
His research spans over three decades, with active projects in Jordan (Humayma), Romania (Orgame/Arganum), and planning for Sicily (Lentini). He integrates student training into fieldwork, aiming to bridge academic research with practical excavation experience.
