Professor Andrew Shennan is the Tommy's Chair in Maternal and Fetal Health at King’s College London, leading the Department of Women & Children's Health and directing the NIHR Global Health Research Group. Based at St. Thomas’ Hospital, he serves as Clinical Director of the South London Clinical Research Network and chairs the FIGO Preterm Birth Committee and Action on Pre-eclampsia charity.
- Contributes to global maternal health policy (WHO, NICE, European Commission)
- Active clinical role in high-risk obstetrics and award-winning preterm surveillance clinic
Research Interests: Focuses on clinical trials for preterm birth prediction/prevention, pre-eclampsia management, and global maternal mortality reduction. Key projects include FIGO PremPrep-5, CRADLE Vital Signs Alert, and INSIGHT-2 mechanistic studies using fetal MRI.
Recent Articles: Investigate caesarean-related recurrent preterm risks, virtual wards in maternity, cervical cerclage efficacy, and community mentoring in Sierra Leone. Over 500 peer-reviewed publications (H-index >50) with emphasis on low-resource settings and implementation science.
