Andrew Scott is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing and Communications at Lancaster University, where he has been a member since the late 1980s. He initially worked in the Distributed Multimedia Research Group and established Lancaster's IPv6 group in 1997, which evolved into the Mobile IPv6 Systems Research Laboratory. His foundational work includes developing the university's web presence and regional wireless network (Cleo).
His research spans operating systems, systems architecture, network testbeds, and protocols for mobile/ad-hoc systems, with specialization in embedded systems including mobile devices, sensor networks, and tele-health. Current projects focus on large-scale testbed deployments through EU initiatives like Intersection and ANA, alongside UK Level-0 networks.
Recent publications demonstrate cross-disciplinary applications of his networking expertise, particularly in energy informatics for renewable systems integration.
Andrew Scott's contributions have been recognized with significant awards:
- Microsoft Windows Embedded Academic Excellence Award (presented by Bill Gates)
- Lancaster University Prize for Commercialisation
- Microsoft MVP designation
He leads major research initiatives including the EU Intersection project, EU ANA project on autonomic networking, GpENI, UK Level-0 networks, REPLICATE (2023-2024), and the Enable Ancillary Services project (2018-2021), while serving as evaluator for EU IST and UK EPSRC programs.
Scott directs the Mobile IPv6 Systems Research Laboratory centered around industrial-scale network testbeds and continues to advance wireless infrastructure through Cleo network evolution.
