Andrew Schaap is a Lecturer in Politics at the University of Exeter since 2007, based at the Cornwall campus. He has held previous academic positions, including research roles at the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University, and was a visiting researcher at the University of Copenhagen in 2023.
His research focuses on democratic theory, twentieth-century political thought, and the politics of reconciliation and civility. Key areas include Indigenous rights and land rights in Australia, citizenship struggles, and intersectional feminist theory. He has also explored the spatial and constitutional politics of activism, as seen in his work on the Aboriginal Tent Embassy.
Andrew’s publications include the book Political Reconciliation (2005) and co-edited volumes such as The Aboriginal Tent Embassy: Sovereignty, Black Power, Land Rights and the State (2013). His work has appeared in journals like Perspectives on Politics, Political Theory, and European Journal of Political Theory.
In addition to his academic contributions, Andrew has collaborated with institutions and scholars internationally, reflecting his engagement with global political discourse and Indigenous rights advocacy.
