Andrew S. London is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Syracuse University, affiliated with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. His research focuses on demography, medical sociology, mental health, aging, and LGBTQ+ studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from the University of Pennsylvania (1993), an M.A. in Demography (1989), and a B.A. in Psychology from McGill University (1986).
His research interests span topics such as veteran health disparities, ADHD in adulthood, gender transition and marriage, HIV prevention, and policy impacts on marginalized populations. He has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including notable works on veteran mortality, ADHD and mortality patterns, and LGBTQ+ family dynamics. Recent grants include the NIH-funded 'Center for Aging and Policy Studies' and the 'Syracuse Advancing Cities (SAC)' initiative.
Dr. London’s teaching roles include courses like Quantitative Methods for Social Sciences, Introduction to Sociology, and Global Internship programs. He has served on editorial boards for journals like Demography and Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and held leadership roles in ASA sections on Medical Sociology and Drugs and Society. His awards include recognition for influential work on ADHD in the Journal of Attention Disorders.
He actively contributes to institutional governance as Associate Dean of the Maxwell School and member of the Chancellor’s Task Force on Sexual and Relationship Violence. His research frequently bridges biomedical and sociological perspectives, addressing issues like vascular aging, veteran healthcare access, and disparities in mental health service utilization.
