Andrew Pinto

Dr. Andrew Pinto is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of St Andrews' School of Medicine, an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, and a family physician at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. He leads the Upstream Lab, focusing on social determinants of health, population health management, and data-driven proactive care. He holds the CIHR Applied Public Health Chair in Upstream Prevention and oversees roles such as Associate Director of the University of Toronto Practice-Based Research Network and lead of Ontario’s POPLAR clinical research network.

His research emphasizes leveraging data science to address healthcare inequities and improve preventive strategies. Key projects include the Canadian Primary Care Trials Network and leadership in public health initiatives like the BETTER trial. Recent work includes analyzing cost impacts of free medication programs and protocol designs for community-based chronic disease prevention.
