Andrew Michael Hurley is Lecturer in Creative Writing (Fiction) at Manchester Metropolitan University. His debut novel 'The Loney' won the Costa First Novel Award and British Book Industry Awards Book of the Year (2016), establishing him as a leading voice in contemporary Gothic fiction. Originally published as a limited edition by Tartarus Press, the novel gained widespread acclaim after republication by John Murray.
His creative practice explores Gothic traditions, psychological horror, and liminal landscapes. Set in atmospheric coastal environments, his work examines themes of faith, isolation, and psychological disturbance. Hurley's writing demonstrates sophisticated engagement with British Gothic traditions while innovating within the genre.
