Andrew Meehan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English & Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde. He is a novelist, screenwriter, and former Head of Development at the Irish Film Board (now Screen Ireland). His research focuses on romantic and familial love narratives, informed by projects like the ESRC-funded 'Getting On: Understanding & Writing Love In Later Life' (2025).
His novels include One Star Awake (2018 Desmond Elliott Prize longlist), The Mystery of Love (2020 Waterstones Irish Book of the Month), and Instant Fires (2023). He is currently working on Best Friends, a novel exploring love in later life.
As a screenwriter, he has developed adaptations of his novels with funding for One Star Awake and The Mystery of Love. His film work includes Oscar-nominated projects like Song of the Sea and Black 47.
