Andrew Mark Gillott serves as Senior Lecturer in Performance Coaching at the University of Stirling's School of Sport, with additional affiliation as Visiting Fellow at Leeds Beckett University's School of Sport. His academic work bridges high-performance sport practice with theoretical innovation in coaching methodologies.
Dr. Gillott's research interests focus on qualitative approaches to performance coaching, particularly post-structural and arts-based methodologies. He has pioneered creative-relational inquiry as a framework for understanding practice-relationships as intimate, relational encounters that require novel methodological responses. His work emphasizes the role of intimacies and relationality in learning and development within coaching contexts.
His recent scholarly output centers on autoethnographic approaches and creative methodologies, culminating in his 2025 monograph with Routledge that explores sensation, events, and encounters in performance contexts. Gillott established the International Conference of Autoethnography and contributes to European and International Special Interest Groups for qualitative inquiry.
