Andrew M. Rappe

Andrew M. Rappe is Blanchard Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his PhD from MIT in 1992 and leads research in theoretical chemistry and physics of energy conversion. His group develops theoretical methods for materials science challenges, focusing on light-matter interactions, quantum materials, and electrochemical energy storage.

Research spans ferroelectric materials, bulk photovoltaic effects, hybrid perovskites, topological materials, and mechanochemistry. Rappe has published over 300 articles and co-directs the Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research.

Honors include the Humboldt Research Award (2017), Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award (2012), and multiple visiting professorships worldwide. His group maintains collaborations with international research institutions and focuses on sustainable energy solutions.
