Professor Andrew Lyons is a Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Management at the University of Liverpool's Management School, serving as Head of the Operations & Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Subject Group since September 2018. He leads the School's Centre for Supply Chain Research (CSCR) and oversees major MSc programs in Operations & Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics & Big Data, and AI for Digital Business. Previously, he held interim leadership roles in the Marketing Subject Group (2018–2020) and the Marketing & Operations Subject Group (2017–2018).
His research focuses on supply chain innovation, sustainable practices, and digital transformation, with themes including transport logistics, agri-food systems, and Industry 4.0 technologies. He has secured over £4M in research funding from bodies like the EU (H2020, FP7), NERC, and Innovate UK, addressing topics such as circular economy plastics, resilient supply networks, and lean manufacturing. His work emphasizes bridging theory and practice to enhance business competitiveness and environmental/social outcomes.
Prof. Lyons has supervised over 20 PhD students and contributes to teaching modules like Lean Thinking and Strategic Operations Management. He is a visiting professor at the University of Valencia, a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT), and has reviewed research proposals for global bodies like the Swiss National Science Foundation and NERC.
