Dr. Andrew Long is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Northern Kentucky University's College of Arts and Sciences. He has maintained a consistent teaching presence at NKU since at least 2000, offering courses such as Mathematics for Liberal Arts (MAT 115), Calculus II (MAT 229), and Discrete Mathematics (MAT 385).
Dr. Long's academic expertise spans several key mathematical domains:
- Voting Methods and Social Choice Theory
- Apportionment Algorithms and Fair Division
- Probability Theory and Statistical Applications
- Discrete Structures and Combinatorics
- Network Analysis and Graph Theory
- Mathematics Education Methodologies
His comprehensive teaching materials demonstrate deep subject knowledge, with detailed resources for voting systems, apportionment methods, probability applications, and network theory. Dr. Long has been granted multiple sabbaticals for academic work, including a Canadian sabbatical (Fall 2013-Spring 2014) and work in Ranquitte, Haiti (Fall 2006-Spring 2007), indicating his standing as a tenured faculty member.
Dr. Long maintains regular office hours (M 2-3, W 2-3 & 4:50-5:30, TR 12:15-3) and has developed extensive course materials that have evolved over more than two decades of teaching. He emphasizes educational principles like the FACE approach (Focus, Attitude, Creativity, Effort) and maintains detailed assignment solutions, commercial schedules featuring historical mathematicians, and specialized resources for student success in mathematics.
