Professor Andrew Linn is Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research & Knowledge Exchange and Professor of Language, History and Society at the University of Westminster. Previously Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, he holds a BA in English from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, an MA in General Linguistics, and a PhD in History of Linguistics. His career includes professorships at the University of Sheffield and visiting positions at Bergen and Paris universities.
His research focuses on language policy/planning and history of linguistics, with recent projects examining English-medium education across Central Asia and Europe. He leads initiatives on language policy development for higher education in Uzbekistan and the impact of English in European contexts.
Professor Linn's publications demonstrate consistent focus on language standardization, educational reform through linguistic perspectives, and historical analysis of applied linguistics. His work combines theoretical frameworks with practical policy applications across diverse cultural contexts.
