Andrew Irvine is a Professor of Philosophy and Global Studies at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus, affiliated with the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney, specializing in mathematical truth and scientific realism. His research focuses on Bertrand Russell, censorship, and the rule of law, with notable contributions to the philosophy of mathematics, logic history, and legal philosophy. He has taught at UBC Vancouver, the University of Toronto, and Simon Fraser University, and held visiting fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh and Stanford University. Irvine has authored/co-authored influential works like Argument: Critical Thinking, Logic and the Fallacies and Socrates on Trial. He serves on charitable organization boards and previously held roles in UBC governance.
