Andrew H. Rawicz is a Professor in the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University. His career spans decades with expertise in reliability physics, biomedical engineering, and optical device design. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Gliwice, Poland (1980) and an M.Sc. in Physics from Krakow, Poland (1973).
- Education: Ph.D. (Physics, Gliwice, 1980), M.Sc. (Physics, Krakow, 1973)
- Areas of Expertise: Biomedical engineering, reliability physics, optical devices, assistive technologies
His research focuses on reliability physics and engineering, particularly in biomedical applications such as implantable devices and diagnostic systems. He has extensively studied optical device engineering, rehabilitation technologies, and materials processing in microelectronics, with recent work in nonlinear optics and transducer design. Publications include studies on glomerular membrane optimization for artificial kidneys and eye-gaze tracking systems for ALS patients.
Professor Rawicz teaches courses in biomedical engineering and reliability prediction, emphasizing hands-on engineering projects. His work bridges theoretical physics with practical medical device development, contributing to independent living systems and assistive engineering solutions.
