Andrew H Laszlo is a Research Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Washington (College of Arts & Sciences). His work focuses on biological physics and nanopore technology, particularly in advancing DNA sequencing and studying viral enzymes at single-molecule resolution. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Washington (2014) and a B.A. in Physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder (2009).
Research interests include developing the SPRNT (Single-molecule Picometer Resolution Nanopore Tweezers) technique to study helicases and polymerases, with recent applications to SARS-CoV-2 enzymes. His lab explores nanopore-based sensors for expanded DNA alphabets and antiviral drug discovery.
Recent work has advanced synthetic biology through 8- and 12-letter DNA alphabet sequencing, and revealed insights into viral helicase inhibition mechanisms. He advises graduate students in biophysics and nanotechnology, and his lab is located in Johnson Hall (Office 024, Lab 217).
