معرفی
Andrew Frederiksen is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Manitoba and currently serves as the Associate Dean (Academic) of the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. His research focuses on earthquake seismology, lithospheric structure, and advanced geophysical imaging techniques, particularly in understanding continental tectonics and rifting processes. He holds a B.Sc. from McGill University (1994), an M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia (1997), and a Ph.D. from the same institution (2001), all in geophysics-related fields.
Dr. Frederiksen's research interests span the use of seismic data to image Earth's interior, including techniques like tomography, shear-wave splitting, and receiver functions. He has contributed to projects such as the SPREE experiment, investigating the North American Midcontinent Rift System, and has developed novel methods for analyzing seismic noise and improving data processing algorithms. His work explores how tectonic processes shape the lithosphere, with applications to continental rifting, mantle dynamics, and crustal deformation.
He teaches courses including Geophysical Inversion Methods (GEOL 4250), Seismology (GEOL 4320), and Geophysics Field Courses (GEOL 4740). His research has led to significant publications in journals like Geophysical Journal International and Journal of Geophysical Research, focusing on structural imaging, anisotropy analysis, and the Midcontinent Rift System.
