Andrew Fox is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis, and a member of the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC). He holds a Ph.D. and B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on the neurobiology of affective style, particularly dispositional anxiety, using translational approaches in humans and nonhuman primates. Key tools include neuroimaging, RNA-sequencing, and computational methods like cellphone-based experience sampling. He leads the Fox Lab for Translational Affective Neuroscience, emphasizing open science and collaboration. His work has been featured in prominent journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and American Journal of Psychiatry, and he contributes to initiatives such as the UC Davis DataLab Python User Group. Current grants support projects on maladaptive behavior origins and neural mechanisms of anxiety.
Teaching includes courses on the Psychology of Emotion (PSC 154) and Biological Psychology (PSC 101). His lab actively recruits undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers. Collaborations span neuroscience, psychiatry, and computational biology, with a focus on bridging basic and clinical research to improve mental health interventions.
